Love stories are something that make our spirits soar, whether they are part of a wider plot or as part of a purely romantic tale, romance sells. So what elements are there that come together to make the perfect romance story? Here are few things to remember when you are writing your own romance tale.
The hero
When it comes to romance, there is the hero of the tale, the man that you spend every moment you are reading hoping that he is going to end up with the girl. When you have a good hero it’s not his backstory that is important, it’s his heart. He might be an Alpha male, a rogue, a scoundrel or simply the boy next door, whatever he is, he should be redeemable no matter what happens but never a pushover.
The heroine
The heroine has to be considered very carefully in any romance story. She cannot be a woman that is defined by her relationship with the hero. Her love can’t be what defines her either, she has to be a complete person in her own right, with her own faults and history, but just as redeemable as the hero is.
Mismatch
When you want to write a really compelling romance story that is filled with sexual tension, you need a couple that you wouldn’t natural think would go together. There is a lot of comedy, deep emotion and tension that you can create with a mismatched pair, just remember to make sure that it’s not too adversarial as no relationship can survive if it is constant fighting.
